There were whispers a few weeks ago that the Dallas Mavericks were interested in potentially moving Dennis Smith Jr. ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline. On Monday night, those whispers grew into shockwaves with one tweet from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Dallas Mavericks are escalating discussions to find a trade for point guard Dennis Smith Jr., league sources tell ESPN. Phoenix and Orlando have engaged in ongoing talks with Mavs. Smith Jr., has sat out three straight games with what team has termed a sore back.

Dennis Smith Jr. hasn’t had the best of seasons this year with the Mavericks and even though he’s been improved in terms of efficiency, he hasn’t produced as many expected him to during his second year in the NBA.
DSJ is averaging less points, assists and rebounds this year compared to his rookie year, and playing less minutes. For the most part, the arrival and play of Luka Doncic this season has overshadowed the disappointing year from DSJ. Although, it seems that the Mavs are perfectly fine with selling low on their second-year point guard as the NBA Trade Deadline quickly approaches.
