NBA Trade Rumors: 5 teams who should target Dennis Smith Jr.
San Antonio Spurs
It would take a lot for the Mavs to seriously conduct business with the San Antonio Spurs, but we’ve seen stranger things in the NBA before. The Spurs’ starting point guard was lost before the season began, and have been using Bryan Forbes as their starter this season.
And even though making a move for Dennis Smith Jr. for any team would, more than anything, be a move for the future, the Spurs do make some sense. They could use some help at the position this season, and even when Dejounte Murray makes his return next year he’s not a sure thing.
There’s no question that Gregg Popovich would be able to get the most out of DSJ, and making a move for a young, talented player, that is likely being sold low, would be a great move for a team that is trying to find their next face of the franchise.
Again, the Mavs and Spurs don’t routinely make moves to help each other – as they’re in direct competition with one another – but perhaps the two sides could put aside their differences to make a move that makes sense for both sides come to fruition.
