NBA: The 23 most underrated players from the 90s to present day

Mark Aguirre, Forward (1981-94)

Teams: Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers 

Career best stat line: 29.5 points, 6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 52% FG (1983-84)

Though he’s widely known as a “Bad Boy” Piston, prior to being acquired via trade in 1989, Aguirre was the Mav’s leading scorer for consecutive seasons. It was only when he played alongside his childhood friend, Isiah Thomas, that he chose to sacrifice for the betterment of the team, and saw his scoring numbers dip.

As a result, its lead to him being viewed as only a contributor on the Bad Boy Pistons’ championship teams and never receiving hall of fame consideration.

Allan Houston, Guard (1994-2005)

Teams: New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons 

Career best stat line: 22.5 points, 40% 3PT (2002-03) 

Plagued by injuries during the prime of his career, it’s easy to see why he’s been forgotten outside of the Knicks fan base. But prior to signing his enormous contract and dealing with constant knee issues, Houston was on pace to being considered one the game’s best shooters and likely would have allowed the New York Knicks to remain relevant during the mid-2000s.

Thus, given the Knicks a better chance of attracting more free agents way before Amare’s arrival, in the summer of 2010.
