NBA Rumors: We haven’t heard of Carmelo Anthony in a while, but reportedly has options for his next team and is expected back soon

If you thought we had heard – and seen – the last of Carmelo Anthony in the NBA, think again. And we could see him back in the Association on a night to night basis sooner rather than later.

According to The Atheltic’s (subscription required) Sam Amick and Joe Vardon, Anthony has a few options that he’s going to be able to choose between and is expected to decide before the NBA Trade Deadline. The big question is, which teams are reportedly interested in the former all-star?

Well, it’s not clear. The Los Angeles Lakers were rumored to possibly be interested a few weeks ago, mostly because of LeBron James‘ presence on the roster. The Miami Heat are another team that could potentially be involved here, as they were one of the other teams that were interested in bringing in Melo during the off-season.

But other than those two teams, it’s tough to find any others that would legitimately be interested in bringing in Melo. Would the Boston Celtics? They have struggled putting their talent all together this season, and Kyrie Irving mentioned earlier this season how he thought the team would be better off if they had a veteran on the roster.

Melo, if he buys into coming of the bench in a specific role, could fill that void. But, I don’t think the Celtics are really interested at this point. It would be an odd move.

Perhaps a team like the Denver Nuggets, who have been one of the better teams this season, would be interested. This is a team that doesn’t have a ton of star power, and little to no playoff experience on the roster.

I don’t think there’s any slam dunk, perfect situation out there for Carmelo Anthony. Especially not knowing which Melo we’re going to get during the second half of the season. Will he want to accept a role off the bench? Is he going to demand to start? Without that information, it’s difficult to predict where he’ll land.

Nevertheless, Carmelo Anthony back in the NBA should be a fun experience. No matter where it might be.
