NBA Rumors: Growing uncertainty that Kyrie Irving won’t re-sign in Boston?
NBA Rumors: Is there growing belief that Kyrie Irving could leave Boston during the off-season?
The Boston Celtics have been compiling assets for the last few years for a chance to make a run at Anthony Davis. The fact that he’s now officially on the trade block, but can’t be moved to Boston until the summer is unfortunate.
Because of a league rule, the Celtics can’t trade for Davis until they either trade Kyrie Irving first or he opts out of his current contract after this season.
That means they have to hope the Pelicans wait until the summer to move Davis, in order to really engage on the sweepstakes for the superstar. However, according to Yahoo’s Chris Haynes, the Celtics might not be a top potential landing spot for Davis, for a number of reasons.

One of which is the fact that there’s a growing belief that Kyrie could elect to sign elsewhere in the off-season, which would be somewhat of a surprise.
"[via Yahoo]Regarding team preferences, Boston is not a top target for Davis, sources said. There’s a growing belief of uncertainty that Kyrie Irving will re-sign with Boston, sources said, even though he vowed to do so at the beginning of the season."
There have been some growing pains with Irving in Boston over the last couple of seasons, which was highlighted this season by Kyrie reportedly calling LeBron James and apologizing about their time in Cleveland.
But before the season, Kyrie did tell the Celtics fan base that the would re-sign long-term. Even though none of that really means anything until pen is put to paper, it wouldn’t come off as the best look for Kyrie to move off that stance.
Whether you’re willing to believe this report or not, there’s no question that this summer is going to be jam-packed with action. And the Celtics will likely be at the center of it, whether Anthony Davis is dealt at this year’s NBA Trade Deadline or not.
