As the NBA Trade Deadline draws near, we explore five contenders who could crash the Anthony Davis sweepstakes
New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis and agent Rich Paul made headlines all week after they informed the Pelicans that Davis wants out and will not re-sign with the team this summer.
Social media GM’s everywhere are gearing up for what could be the trade of the decade and a chance for another team to take down the Warriors dynasty. The Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are the front-runners, but each of the three has its own problems as to why their offers keep falling apart.
Here are five contending teams that could work out a deal for Davis as the NBA Trade Deadline quickly approaches.
Oklahoma City Thunder
OKC is on fire lately, winning the past five games and nine of 15. Paul George is surging as an MVP and Defensive Player of the Year contender while Russell Westbrook continues to fill the stat sheet. Steven Adams has been the third wheel for OKC, and that could change if the Thunder wants another shot at a big three.
Oklahoma City record: 31-18, 3rd in West
Oklahoma City receives: Anthony Davis and Nikola Mirotic
New Orleans receives: Steven Adams, Jerian Grant, Andre Roberson, 2019 1st Round Draft Pick, and 2021 1st Round Draft Pick
The days of Westbrook, James Harden and Kevin Durant are long gone, but Westbrook, George and Davis sounds just as good. The Thunder have to deal Adams and likely a combination of Grant, Roberson, Nerlens Noel, Patrick Patterson or Terrance Ferguson will all be on the block for this trade to happen. Mirotic may be of too much value unless Pelicans are desperate for draft picks.
