NBA Trade Deadline Preview: 24 trade candidates and possible deals
By Shade Piper
Otto Porter, Washington Wizards
Likeliness to get traded: 5/10
Otto Porter is another player whose trade value would be sky-high if it wasn’t for a big contract. I still think he is more valuable than some of the other big contracts on this list because he is only 25 and has two years left on his deal after this season.
His 13 points and 5.7 rebounds per game averages might not look worth $26 million to most people, but it is also worth considering that he has averages 1.5 steals per game and shot over 40 percent from 3 each of the past three seasons. Another notable aspect to this is that he has played much of the last three seasons on the court with John Wall and Bradley Beal who have a combined usage rate of 57 percent, which is second only to Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.
He hasn’t had a whole lot of opportunities in Washington, but he has been efficient in the limited opportunities he has had. His contract would be a huge risk, but on a different team it could turn into a much more valuable contract than what it currently seems.
According to reports (subscription required), the Wizards could aggressively shop Porter if out of playoff contention, which they are right now. Although more recently it has been reported that the Wizards don’t want to trade any of their trio of John Wall-Bradley Beal-Otto Porter, I think it is still likely that he is traded because this report could be just to save face a little.
He is already rumored to be garnering some interest from the Jazz and the Kings, so we will see if they can come up with enough trade ammunition to persuade the Wizards to pull the trigger.
Trade Idea: Kings send Willy Cauley-Stein, Zach Randolph, Ben McLemore, and a first-round pick to the Wizards for Otto Porter
