NBA Rumors: The Charlotte Hornets elected not to move Frank Kaminsky at the NBA Trade Deadline, and buyout talks have reportedly stalled
The Charlotte Hornets tried to trade Frank Kaminsky at the NBA Trade Deadline a couple weeks ago, but failed on all fronts according to reports. Once the deadline came and went without a Kaminsky deal, it was expected for him to be an automatic buyout candidate.
According to Sporting News’ Sean Deveney, Kaminsky has become frustrated with his current situation in Charlotte and buyout talks have reportedly stalled between both sides. Which could make an agreement coming in the next few days all the more complicated.
"A season of disappointment and irritation for Hornets forward Frank Kaminsky, the No. 9 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, continues as sources tell Sporting News that efforts to secure a buyout for Kaminsky to allow him to become a free agent have stalled."

"…Kaminsky was described as “very frustrated” with the situation."
In order for Kaminsky to be added – and eligible – to a playoff roster, he’d have to be a free agent by March 1. In other words, he’s has roughly a week to come to an agreement with the Hornets.
With the expectation that he won’t play for the qualifying offer next season – if he’s frustrated with the team, I highly doubt he’d want to re-sign during the summer – Kaminsky will be a restricted free agent during the summer.
If there was a market for him at the NBA Trade Deadline, you’d expect there to be a market for the big during the summer.
As for the rest of this season, it’s going to be interesting to see if the Hornets give Kaminsky his wish and buy the rest of his contract out. Kaminsky could be a good addition for any team that needs some depth across their front-court.
He’s clearly not needed in Charlotte, as he’s only averaging 10.8 minutes per game this season and has only appeared in 26 games this season.
