3. Ashton Hagans, Kentucky
Listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Ashton Hagans might not jump out of the group of point guards in this year’s NBA Draft class. However, there’s no question that he belongs in the top 5 of the group and could make even more of a leap depending on how he performs during his pre-draft workouts in a couple months.
During his freshman season at Kentucky, Hagans hasn’t exactly lit up the stat sheet. In fact, he’s only averaging eight points and four assists so far this season for the Wildcats. Even though he has seen a bit of a drop in production recently, mostly because he’s seen less minutes, Hagans has all the tools to be a great point guard at the next level.
He’s a a good defender and better athlete than he gets credit for, but there’s no question that he struggles with his shot. He’s only shooting 29 percent from 3-point range this season, and that has to be seen as a weakness considering that the NBA is quickly moving to a more perimeter-oriented game.
