NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks to target Kemba Walker in free agency
NBA Rumors: When free agency opens, the Dallas Mavericks’ top target is expected to be Kemba Walker
The Dallas Mavericks made major waves when they acquired Kristaps Porzingis days before the NBA Trade Deadline when no one even knew the player formally known as The Unicorn was even available on the open market.
Couple that with the fact that Luka Doncic has absolutely bursted onto the scene as a real superstar in just his rookie season, and the Mavs will be one of the most attractive landing spots during the off-season.
And one player that will be at the top of the Mavs’ wishlist this summer is Kemba Walker, who is expected to hit free agency after putting together arguably the best season of his career thus far in 2018-19.

Kemba is averaging 25 points, six assists and four rebounds per game on 43 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent from 3-point range. Even though the Hornets will likely miss the playoffs this season, the season that Kemba is having can’t be overlooked.
"[via Charlotte Observer]Two sources with knowledge of the Mavericks’ thinking expect Walker, the Hornets’ three-time All-Star point guard, to be that team’s top target when NBA free-agency begins July 1."
The Mavs are one of likely a number of teams that will be on the trail of Kemba, which may include the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers among others, including the Hornets. Kemba may not be a top tier free agent heading into the summer, especially with some of the big names that will likely be on the open market, but Kemba is certainly part of the second tier that could help change the landscape of the NBA.
In the right role and team, adding a player like Kemba, who is in the midst of his prime, could help a team like the Mavs, Lakers or even Knicks take the next step as a franchise.
Walker grouped with Doncic and Porzingis could make an interesting trio in Dallas, and would immediately become one of the more intriguing teams in the Western Conference – depending on what Kevin Durant elects to do in July.
