Wofford star Fletcher Magee is an extremely talented shooter and scorer. But where will he be drafted in the 2019 NBA Draft?
If you hadn’t heard of him before, chances are you’ve probably heard the name Fletcher Magee in the last 24 hours. The Wofford sharpshooter led his team to the win over Seton Hall, and in the process, broke the record for most career 3-pointers made in Division I basketball history.
Magee’s seven 3’s against 10th seeded opponent Seton Hall give him 509 made 3-point field goals in his four years at Wofford.
The 6-foot-4 guard averages 20.6 points per game on 43.5 percent shooting from deep. He often takes ridiculous shots, having to contort and turn his body at a variety of angles, yet is still able to make them at an excellent rate. This innate ability to make difficult shots from long-range has drawn comparisons to Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry.
However, Magee is currently predicted to be the last pick in the second round of this year’s NBA Draft – with many other draft boards predicting him to go undrafted. While his shooting is well-known, Magee needs to show he can be more of a playmaker (he only averages 1.6 APG) as he lacks the size and physical attributes to be an NBA shooting guard.
This may also make him a defensive liability, and make many question if he will be nothing more than the next Jimmer Fredette. The Wofford senior is undeniably skilled on the offensive end, but Magee must use the pre-draft and individual workouts to prove whether his game can translate to the next level, and make him an effective NBA player worth a look in this year’s Draft.
Fletcher McGee and Wofford’s season came to an unfortunate end at the hands of the Kentucky Wildcats, but there’s no question that he helped his draft status over the course of the last two weeks.
