NBA Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers will reportedly consider Jason Kidd as a replacement for Luke Walton should the team move on
The Los Angeles Lakers are in the midst of a season to forget even though they came away with LeBron James during the summer. However, the hope is that they could begin to change the theme on their immediate future.
And the first of such moves that could allow this team to finally play a factor in the Western Conference is the team possibly moving on from Luke Walton. And if the team would make that decision, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski suggest that Jason Kidd will be a serous candidate.
Which is interesting for a number of reasons.
For one, it’s the Lakers. And anything and everything they do or are even thinking about doing is placed under a microscope. Even more so considering this involves LeBron James. And thirdly, Jason Kidd.
One of the last times we saw Kidd in the NBA, he was falling short of expectations with the Bucks. And the one thing that he’s most famous for as a head coach was asking one of his teammates to deliberately bump into him so he could drop a drink on the court to earn a timeout when his team was out of them.
But, in essence, he fits the mold of what the Lakers would be in the market for. He’s a big name that would likely be cool with stepping aside as LeBron does what he pleases. Kidd is a name that can take the scrutiny that comes with the position, and could relate to LeBron in a way that possibly some of the other reported coaching candidates can’t.
Jason Kidd won’t be the last name that surfaces as a potential candidate for the Lakers impending coaching search, but he might be the most interesting one. Just when you thought the entire Lakers saga couldn’t get any more interesting.
