Speaking of departing free agent point guards, Kemba Walker, who hits the free agent market July 1, could help create a spot for Mike Conley on the Charlotte Hornets roster by signing with another team.

This one is an easy connection to make. Michael Jordan hates losing and wouldn’t just accept a total rebuild and Mike Conley Jr. is part of the Jordan brand. It wouldn’t be that much of a stretch for the Hornets to make a bold trade in the even that they miss out on re-signing Kemba this summer.

The Hornets would obviously downgrade by replacing Conley with Kemba, but the continuation of a steady hand at point guard would help the continued development of their few young pieces.  Since this would happen after free agency, it is more likely that the Hornets 2019 first-round pick would be off the table and a future pick or two would be offered instead.
