Los Angeles Lakers: Should Rajon Rondo be re-signed next season?
Rajon Rondo would like to return to the Los Angeles Lakers next season, but should the team re-sign him during the off-season?
Make no mistake, the Los Angeles Lakers are dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on a season to forget, however there is much work to be done and big decisions to be made over the course of the next couple of months.
There’s no way the Lakers can afford to bring back the same roster, and legitimately sell that they could become players in the Western Conference. Even with a healthy LeBron James, Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram.
There has to be changes, and probably big ones if the Lakers are going to be real contenders heading into next season. Landing a star to stick next to LeBron will no question be the biggest goal for Los Angeles this summer.

And if they fail to do that, I’m not sure what the next pivot would be for management. Whether it comes via trade or free agency, it has to happen. Which makes this roster so difficult to predict. There’s a good chance that this roster looks completely different than it does right now, but that doesn’t mean the team shouldn’t think about keeping a player or two around.
One potential player that they could bring back, depending on what his market will be this off-season, is Rajon Rondo. And it’s been reported that Rondo would be equally interested in a return to the team.
In the games that he played in, Rondo wasn’t terrible. He was quite solid, averaging nine points, eight assists and five rebounds in 42 games and 25 starts. For a team that very much needed a reliable backup point guard, Rondo filled the role nicely (when he was healthy).
It’s a role that he could potentially fill again next season, even more so if they need to fill roster spots with vets if they lose some of their young depth in a potential trade for another big name.
Depending on what happens this summer, bringing back Rondo on an affordable deal could be a steal.
