NBA Draft: Prospects who are trending up heading into the Final Four
By Tron Griffin
Ja Morant, Murray State
Morant has played himself into the No. 2 pick in this year’s NBA Draft by dominating with his speed, passing and shooting ability against better competition than the teams he played against in the Ohio Valley Conference. His 17 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds performance against Marquette along with his 28 points against Florida State proved he can play and dominate against anyone.
He should continue the NBA trend of fast superstar point guards, but it is his passing ability that could separate him from some of the best point guards in the league. Morant’s speed and overall true point guard skills give him a truly rare upside scouts are not used to seeing in college basketball players. He is not a shooting guard playing the point guard position.
Morant is a truly skilled point guard like Magic Johnson with the speed and scoring ability of Russell Westbrook, which is why he has surpassed Duke’s R.J. Barrett as the No. 2 pick in many mock drafts; something no one thought would be possible at the beginning of the season.
