Loser: ESPN
ESPN/ABC owned the syllabus of rights for Saturday’s NBA Playoff slate. Unfortunately for the executives at the Worldwide Leader in Sports, they were second, but just for the weekend. Why? Well, because there’s an old folk legend named Eldrick “TIGER” Woods, and he’s kind of a big deal.
That’s right. The “tradition unlike any other,” the Masters, is this weekend, and the most legendary golfer in the history of the galaxy, is in contention. Saturday, he made his biggest run. And right in the midst of a D.J. Augustin/Nikola Vucevic pick-and-roll, Tiger sank a birdie put to tie him for first place.
Sorry, NBA playoffs, as much as the sports-watching world loves and adores you, there is no match for Tiger. He’s the LeBron to everyone else’s Toronto, if you will. The turtleneck-wearing golf mogul may be aging, but damn it every human being in the world within twenty miles of a television is going to tune in to hear Jim Nantz’s velvety voice announce as Tiger thunders to another green jacket.
