Jason Kidd has battled super teams and consistently beaten teams with better talent

During the 2002 and 2003 NBA Finals, Jason Kidd (and the Nets) played against the Lakers and San Antonio Spurs which both had multiple Hall of Famers on the roster.

In 2003, Jason Kidd and the Nets swept the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Pistons, at that time, had Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace, and Richard Hamilton. They were also the best defensive team in the NBA. In 2004, Jason Kidd and the Nets swept the Knicks in the first round when they had Dikembe Mutombo, Stephon Marbury, Keith Van Horn, Anfernee Hardaway, and Vin Baker.

In 2011, in the playoffs, Jason Kidd and the Mavericks beat three super teams including LeBron James in his first final appearance with the Heat. In the Western Conference Finals,  Jason Kidd and the Mavericks beat OKC 4-1 when they had Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden.

And in the Western Conference Semi-Finals Kidd and the Mavericks swept the Lakers when they still had Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom. The Lakers had won the title the previous year.

In the first round, they beat the Portland Trail Blazers led by Lamarcus Aldridge, Andre Miller, Gerald Wallace, Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum, Patty Mills, and Marcus Camby. Kidd’s resume is full of being the underdog and constantly coming out on top. Perhaps he could help the Lakers do the same with less talent next season.
