Step 4: Upgrade at point guard

(I know this does kind of tie into step #2)

The weakest position for this Pacers’ team is probably the point guard spot, which can be a problem in today’s NBA. That isn’t a knock against Darren Collison or Cory Joseph as both are serviceable lead guards. But, at this point, both are better suited to backup roles so Indiana should look to make an upgrade, ideally with one of the guys I mentioned earlier (Kemba or Mike Conley).

If they fail to get one of those two, they could go after a lower-tier name like Ricky Rubio, who would still be a slight upgrade and would also fit in well with the current roster.

Another guy to keep an eye on would be Jrue Holiday if the Pelicans do make him available.

With guys like Kyrie Irving and Kawhi Leonard potentially leaving their respective teams – and possibly the Eastern Conference altogether, the Pacers seem primed to rise through the ranks of the east elite, provided they can make the necessary moves and improvements to get them there.

If they do, Indiana could become a top-2 or 3 team in the East next year!
