NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant to the Knicks continues to gain steam
NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant to the New York Knicks continues to gain steam, as teammates believe it’s somewhat of a foregone conclusion
The Golden State Warriors may very well go on to win their third straight NBA Championship and fourth in five years, but in a matter of only a few months, there’s a chance this roster will look a lot different at the start of next season.
That’s because both Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson are set to hit the open market in free agency, and there’s a whole lot of smoke regarding the status of the former. And, as the cliche states, where there’s smoke, there’s often fire.
Over the past few months, the whispers of Durant leaving the Warriors and signing with the New York Knicks have grown into all-out conversations. In fact, at the same rate, Durant is doing little to quiet those rumblings.

Just a couple months ago, perhaps igniting more rumors, Durant openly moved his headquarters to New York. At this rate, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see him place his house on the open market. Oh, wait…that happened too. In fairness, it was his oceanfront Malibu residence and not the one in Oakland or San Francisco.
Nevertheless, Durant hasn’t really spoken out against the rumors. Which has led many in the media to believe that there’s a real threat that Durant will leave the Warriors this summer. But now it’s clearly moved beyond just a few gasbags with a hot take.
Now, according to Ian Begley of ESPN, some of his teammates are now under the assumption that Kevin Durant leaving the Warriors (presumably for the Knicks) is happening.
"Some of Durant’s former teammates think it’s going to happen, per ESPN sources. Several of his current teammates have told friends that they think it’s going to happen, sources said. Opposing agents believe it’s a fait accompli: “Just a matter of putting pen to paper,” is how one agent of another top free agent in the 2019 free-agent class put it."
With everything lining up perfectly, how could you really blame his teammates or those in the media? Kevin Durant to the Knicks seems as much as a foregone conclusion as LeBron James to the Los Angeles Lakers did last year. And we saw what happened when free agency rolled around.
For now, though, Kevin Durant and the Warriors are trying to win an NBA Championship. However, in the matter of a few months, there’s a good chance this Warriors team takes a big step back. And Kevin Durant will be at the center of it all.
