Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets: 6 storylines to follow
By Ethan Becker
Can the Warriors beat the regular season
The Warriors, who used to be one of the most dominant regular season teams, are now considered almost boring to watch during large parts of the season. The team that once found themselves setting a new record for regular season wins at 73-9, have found themselves fighting to stay at the number one seed for the last two seasons, and they lost that battle last year, to the Rockets.
Regardless, Golden State does always seem to want to bring out the big guns during important games. Durant goes into his killer mode, and it seems like the team is firing on all cylinders. That is unless they were facing the Rockets. Over both teams histories, they have faced off 217 times in the regular season, and the Rockets are 124-93 in that span.
In the last five years, the Rockets have found themselves going against the Warriors 18 times, and the Rockets hold just a 6-12 record. However, all six of those wins have been gotten in the last three years, where the Warriors and Rockets have faced off 11 times and the Rockets hold a 6-5 edge. This year, the Rockets would play two home games and two away games against the Warriors, and Houston won those matchups with a 3-1 record.
Now, the regular season isn’t always the best indicator of postseason success (just ask those 73 win Warriors mentioned above), but it will still be interesting to see if the Warriors can keep the Rockets from gaining the upper-hand, unlike they could in the regular season.
