In the event that the Celtics lose Kyrie Irving to another team during the summer, it would be smart of them to have some sort of insurance plan. That’s why with their third – yes, that’s not a typo – pick of the first round, they could take a chance on a point guard like Carsen Edwards.
Edwards showed just how dynamic he could be when he dropped 42 points (twice) in the NCAA Tournament. He’s a gunner and a gamer. Even though he’s a bit undersized, there’s no question that there’s room for him in the NBA.
He could be a great situational player for a good team, if not a full-time backup point guard. Edwards isn’t the answer to losing Kyrie in free agency but could help cushion the blow that it would have on the team.
