Why it makes sense: For one, he would be joining the limelight of Los Angeles and LeBron James, who he has won with before. He would be viewed as a potential “savior” for both LeBron and the franchise too – which is probably something he loves about the idea.

Los Angeles could then move Lonzo Ball for an additional supporting piece, which would help the team continue to build a team that is worthy of contending in the Western Conference. The Lakers, along with the Celtics, are really the only team that has one superstar already in place. Kyrie joining the Nets or Knicks could be somewhat of a roll of the dice, assuming he commits before Kevin Durant.

Why it doesn’t make sense: Well, who knows if his relationship with LeBron is completely healed and in a place where they could play effectively together. If Kyrie and LeBron are going to work together, they’re going to have to be on the same page.

Even if the Lakers do land Kyrie, there’s no guarantee that they’ll improve enough to compete with the Warriors – with or without Kevin Durant. The Lakers have a ton of other young pieces, and they might not be ready to compete even with the addition of Kyrie.

Everything that’s happening in the front office might be too toxic, even for Kyrie, to handle. And could be better to simply avoid them as an option.

Nevertheless, the Lakers might check the boxes on everything that Kyrie Irving might be looking for. They have the big city, a superstar already in place and a ton of other young pieces that they could use as bait to bring in more veteran supporting pieces. Don’t overlook the Lakers as a real dark horse to land Kyrie this summer. In some strange way, it might make the most sense.
