Los Angeles Lakers: The best free agent option may be an unlikely one
The 2019 NBA offseason is a huge one for the Los Angeles Lakers, and one Celtic player could be the missing part in their quest to a championship
Now that the Los Angeles Lakers have hired Frank Vogel as their new head coach, the next thing to focus is the NBA Draft but the most important thing is what occurs when free agency opens, where we could see a number of big-name players on the move.
The big difference for the Lakers this summer is the fact that they already have LeBron James in their back pocket – something that they quite didn’t have at the start of last free agency period.
The main purpose for the Lakers this offseason is to surround LeBron with the best players so they can become contenders again. Fortunately for the Lakers, they have the cap space to do so and sign an elite player. And this might be the best summer to do so, with plenty of stars in this year’s free agency pool.
Another interesting thing to consider is that there are whispers that Kyrie Irving could be interesting in reunited with LeBron and playing for the Lakers. LeBron and Kyrie played together three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers and went to three straight NBA Finals while winning one of them.
Although we can have a solid argument that he is the correct player the Lakers should sign, there is another Celtics player that could be a great fit with LeBron and the rest of the team’s young core. The name of that player is Al Horford, could opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent this summer.
Let’s explore why Horford makes sense for the Lakers, and how it could actually come to fruition.
