Los Angeles Lakers: The best free agent option may be an unlikely one
Why would Horford leave Boston?
Al Horford has guaranteed $30 million dollars at age 33 if he opts in this summer and remains with the Celtics for one more season. However, if he’s interested in getting one more big payday (for multiple years) it might be in his best interest to pursue such a deal in free agency this summer.
Another factor to consider is what the Celtics elect to do this offseason, considering that they could be on the verge of some roster reconstruction – based on the decision that Kyrie Irving makes.
In the event that he decides to leave the Celtics, there’s a chance that Boston decides to embrace their young core and could leave Horford out of the loop a bit.
In that case, it wouldn’t be all that surprising for Horford to opt out and try to find a new home where he could get another payday while also being in a position where he could compete.
