Sacramento Kings: 5 free agents to help reach the next level
By Ben Bundy
5. Al Horford
Al Horford is the type of player that fits in with any team he plays on, so it’s only natural that he would fit in with the Kings. However, he is the exact type of player the Kings could use specifically.
From a locker room standpoint, Horford would fit the leadership role that this young Kings team could use. Horford has been everything from an all-star to a role player and could relate to every player on the Kings. He also brings postseason and big-game experience to a team that could use it if they do make the playoffs for the first time next season.
On the court, Horford makes just as much sense. He would be able to fit the hole that Willie Cauley-Stein could leave this offseason. He would also open up the Kings offense in a multitude of ways. He gives the team a post presence to help space the floor for the Kings shooters. However, he can also stretch the defense out by bringing opposing centers away from the paint. This would open up the floor for the attacking players on the Kings. He would also bring toughness and edge to the team on both sides of the ball.
While he would make a great fit for the Kings, he is one of the trickier signings to pull off on this list. He has the option to opt into another season for the Boston Celtics but may not do that for a couple of reasons. The Celtics seem to be at a turning point, and Horford could decide to opt out and see what Boston decides to do. If this happens, then the Kings should make their move.
