Dallas Mavericks: 5 free agents to help reach the next level
By Ben Bundy
5. D’Angelo Russell
D’Angelo Russell is one of the league’s most promising young point guards and would fill Dallas’ need at that position. He’s a great competitor who would bring all of his swagger to the Mavericks. He and Doncic would be able to grow and mature as players together, which has to be an exciting thought for everyone in Dallas.
Along with that, it would give the Mavericks two different ball-handlers on the court together. Each player is able to both create his own shot, as well as setting up other teammates. It would make defense less able to focus just on stopping Doncic to interrupt the flow of the Mavericks offense.
The tricky part of this Russell scenario is he is only a Restricted Free Agent, which means the Brooklyn Nets could match any offer he receives. There is a little hope for Dallas fans, however, with rumors of Kyrie Irving or Kemba Walker being targets of the Nets this offseason.
If the Nets decide to go hard after Irving or Walker, they could potentially let Russell go, and the Mavericks should come calling.
