Dallas Mavericks: 5 free agents to help reach the next level
By Ben Bundy
4. Klay Thompson
Klay Thompson might actually be the best fit out of any of these free agents to pair with Doncic. His lethal 3-point shooting would stretch the defense and make it impossible to focus entirely on Doncic. Thompson is also a deceptively good playmaker on his own. In his Golden State Warriors role, he doesn’t often get the chance to show this skill, but in a more focal role with Dallas, he would be able to be more creative.
Thompson is also one of the league’s elite perimeter defenders. He would give the Mavericks an immediate lock-down guy who can guard almost every position on the floor. In today’s NBA, that is an element you must have if you want to make any serious run at a title.
The reason such a great fit for Dallas is only number four on this list is the simple fact that it’s unlikely the Warriors will let him go anywhere else. It’s also just as unlikely at the moment that Thompson would want to leave either.
If for some reason he does decide to take his talents elsewhere, Dallas would make a great fit for both parties.
