Dallas Mavericks: 5 free agents to help reach the next level
By Ben Bundy
2. Jimmy Butler
Jimmy Butler is on this list for all of the same reasons as Thompson, who was discussed earlier. The reason he lands at number two though is due to two main reasons. Reason number one: Butler is actually likely to leave the Philadelphia 76ers and join a new team. Reason number two: Butler has shown he can both fit into a system of stars, but he can also lead his own team.
With Both the 76er’s and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Butler was a key player on a team with other stars. Specifically young stars. These experiences would likely help him accept his role in the Mavericks potential “Big 3”. His time with the Chicago Bulls showed that he can be the main guy on a team though. This shows that when needed, he could put the team on his back and take the pressure off of the young players around him.
Butler would fit in well with Dallas. Like Thompson, he gives the team a very dangerous scorer who can both shoot and create offense for he and his teammates. He would also give the solid perimeter defense that the team could use in big games against the league’s best players.
If Butler does end up suiting up for the Mavericks next season it would make Dallas an instant contender in the Western Conference, and give them the type of veteran leader with playoff experience to help make a postseason run.
