With Kevin Durant sidelined, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is primed to add an NBA Finals MVP to his trophy collection

The moment basketball fans have been waiting for all season is finally here. The NBA Finals start tonight with Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors trying to complete the rare 3-peat against Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors.

The Warriors enter the series on a roll after sweeping the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals without Kevin Durant. They are the heavy favorites to win their fourth championship with many sportswriters journalists picking them to win easily.

The Warriors are getting some good news as Durant is about to start on-court drills so he could get cleared for practice. So, if needed, he could be back as soon as Game 3 if everything goes well.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

DeMarcus Cousins who has missed most of the playoffs is feeling pain-free and is ready to contribute right away; so do not be surprised to see him playing in game one, especially if the Warriors are up by double digits late in the fourth quarter.

The good news for the Warriors come from their recent winning play without Durant and Cousins. The Warriors are playing great team basketball with ball movement reminiscent of the days before Durant joined their championship run.

The Warriors are showing everyone that they are a championship caliber team without Durant who only makes them nearly unbeatable in a seven-game series.

Curry is likely itching to get the series started. This series is his moment to prove once and for all that he is the best player on the Warriors with or without Durant. The Warriors are 31-1 when Curry plays and Durant sits, but most importantly they are undefeated in the last five playoff games without him.

Curry has won almost every major award an NBA superstar can win including being named the 2015 AP Male Athlete of the Year. The only thing missing from his trophy case is the Finals MVP award.

Well, judging by the way the Warriors have been playing and Curry’s 36.5 points, 7.2 assists and 8.2 rebounds a game average against the Trail Blazers; he could add the Finals MVP to his trophy case in about two weeks.
