Los Angeles Clippers: 5 free agents to help become a contender
By Ben Bundy
Klay Thompson
Klay Thompson is a potentially interesting case this offseason for a couple of reasons. Firstly, he has the chance to make a decision on if he wants to be just a second, third or sometimes fourth option with the Warriors for the foreseeable future, or if he wants to try to go be one of the top guys on a new team. Secondly, we have yet to see Thompson lead his own team, so it’s not certain if he even could.
The early predictions have Thompson returning to Golden State, but if he does decide to sign elsewhere, the Clippers would be the perfect fit. With Los Angeles’ cap space they could either sign Thompson and build around him, or sign another star to pair with him. Either way, we’d see Thompson go from a consistent third option to one of the focal points on both sides of the ball.
From a basketball standpoint, we all know Thompson is one of the elite shooters in the game and can get hot seemingly instantly. He is also one of the league’s best defenders and would give Los Angeles a way to guard all of the elite players the NBA has at the perimeter spots.
It’s unlikely Thompson does leave all the success with the Warriors, but if he does don’t be surprised if he decides to stay in California and help make the Clippers the next big championship threat.
