Los Angeles Clippers: 5 free agents to help become a contender
By Ben Bundy
Kevin Durant
As stated earlier, the gap between Kevin Durant and Leonard isn’t that large. While Leonard is one of the best in the game today, Durant is one of the best in the game ever. One other reason he lands at number one is the almost certainty that he will be joining a new team this summer.
This means the Clippers will definitely have a chance at him. Reports are even saying Los Angeles has just as much of a chance as the front-runner New York Knicks to land Durant.
Durant has shown throughout his years with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors that he is not only one of the best offensive players and prolific scorers of all-time, but also one of the most complete players in the NBA. He is top five all-time in points per game and has the ability to score 40 to 50 points any game he plays in. Along with that, he is a skilled ball handler and passer for someone of his size, which makes him very difficult to guard.
Defensively he isn’t as elite as Leonard, but he is one of the rare players who can guard every position on the floor, thanks to his size, quickness, and athleticism. He is a player who does it all and would make any team he joins an immediate contender. Putting him on a Clippers team with playoff talent already would possibly make Los Angeles the favorites to win it all.
It’s obvious the Clippers are going to get much better this offseason. They have the most talented free agent class ever to pick from. The scary thing is, if Los Angeles wanted to, they could pick two guys to sign. Even possibly both Leonard and Durant. All it would take is losing a couple more contracts and Los Angeles could put together the best team in the NBA.
