NBA Rumors: Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant have discussed playing together on the New York Knicks or Brooklyn Nets, but will it actually happen?
Over the last few weeks and months, there has been one free agency narrative that has quickly gained steam. And it’s the one surrounding the possibility of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant coming together to sign with one of the teams this summer that has two max slots, creating the NBA’s newest super team.
The two teams that would be able to do such a thing, and that both free agents have been recently linked to, have been the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks.
And according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the duo has discussed playing together with either the Nets or Knicks. Which lines up with pretty much everything that has been floated around over the last few weeks around these two’s free agency.

"Irving had discussed the possibility of joining Kevin Durant as a free agent in either New York or Brooklyn, sources said"
Of course, the injury to Durant probably complicates things a bit. Nevertheless, it still seems like both the Knicks and Nets would be more than willing to still give Durant the max contract that he’ll likely demand on the open market.
Question is, would Irving still be interested in essentially throwing a year of his prime away in order to wait for Durant – in the event that they both sign with the Nets or Knicks. On the surface, you’d assume so. However, Irving is one of the most unpredictable players in the NBA right now, and no know really knows what he’s thinking.
The dream of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant on the same team isn’t exactly dead, but it will now be viewed as a high risk, high reward type of move for any team that goes through with doing so. Who would’ve thought that just a few weeks ago?
