Heading into the 2019 NBA Draft, it’s hard not to feel like there’s quite a bit of pressure on the Miami Heat. This is a team that has virtually no cap space heading into the summer, and only the 13th pick at their disposal to improve from a season in which they missed the playoffs.
Goran Dragic has opted into the final year of his contract and Hassan Whiteside is expected to do the same soon. That means they will still have big money due this season and really no wiggle room around it.
Taking a chance on a player like Kevin Porter Jr., who has top 10 talent but comes with some questions about his character and commitment, should be the move. If the Heat really does believe in their culture, they should have no problem here.
