4. D’Angelo Russell
The Knicks and D’Angelo Russell being linked together seemed highly unlikely not too long ago. For a while, it seemed like Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving was destined to join New York. However, recent rumors have Irving signing with the Brooklyn Nets. For Russell, this means the Nets have probably found his replacement. For the Knicks, it appears their hunt for a star point guard was back on.
Naturally, it would only make sense that Russell and New York would be a good match. Knicks fans spent last season watching Russell lead their cross-town rivals to the playoffs. Given the chance, both New York and their fans would likely welcome the swagger and talent that Russell brought to Brooklyn last season.
Russell averaged an impressive 21.1 points, 7.0 assists, and 3.9 rebounds, all of which were career highs for the young star. He would give the Knicks an all-star level point guard to run the team for the foreseeable future. Russell has already shown plenty of reasons to think he will continue to get better and claim his spot as one of the top point guards in the league.
While Russell isn’t the level of player who will lead a team to the playoffs on his own, he would make a great second option to one of the wing players on this list. Also, he has the ability to create shots for himself and his teammates. He is someone the Knicks and their fans should love to see move across town to Madison Square Garden.
