With the 7th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls selected Coby White who could blossom into a star at the NBA level in the near future

Coby White could be arguably the best shooter to come out of this year’s draft class, where he shot 35 percent from long range on 6.6 attempts per contest with The Tarheels. The 19-year old also shot an astounding 50 percent from inside the perimeter. White averaged 16.1 points, 3.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game for UNC, who were knocked out in the round of 16 against Auburn.

His speed and athleticism up and down the court are elite and those skills should transfer right over to the NBA. At 6 foot 5, he has the ability to play either guard position, though he will most likely compete with Kris Dunn for the starting point guard spot in Chicago.

Because of his superior quickness, White does a great job of creating his own shooting opportunities. Although he averaged just over three assists at UNC, he has a special ability to pass the ball as well, which will be a very important asset at the next level, especially being a guard.

Although Dunn is currently the starting PG for the Chicago Bulls, White said in an interview with Chicago media after the draft that he is no stranger to competing for the chance to be a starter.

"“When I got to (North Carolina), I had to compete for a starting spot. I had to compete for a point guard spot. Competing is in my blood. It’s in my DNA. We’re going to go at it for sure. Kris Dunn is a great, great player. I can’t wait to get there and get to work”.-White on competing for starting PG spot"

The Bulls clearly drafted the right player not just from a talent standpoint, but someone with the right makeup and will to compete.

White is a very dynamic shooter who can drain looks from both pull-ups and catch and shoot situations. He’s also very good at finishing at the rim, using his speed once again to weave amongst defenders and find opportunities to convert high-percentage shots.

He could be the fastest player to come out of this draft, even quicker than Ja Morant. White isn’t very polished defensively, but that will come with time once he gets more experience at the NBA level.

Partnership with Zach LaVine could be deadly

Zach LaVine was the leading scorer for the Bulls last year, averaging 23.7 points per game at the shooting guard position. Like White, he is freakishly athletic. These two could form one of the most dynamic and explosive backcourts in the league with their abilities to shoot the ball from deep and get to the hoop in the blink of an eye.

The Chicago Bulls definitely drafted the right player in Coby White. He’s an extremely talented kid who is very hard-working, confident, and has the right competitive attitude to succeed at the NBA level. It will be exciting to see him play alongside LaVine, whether it’s off the bench or in a starting role.
