Too much stock in AD
The initial reaction to the trade from seemingly everyone involved with the league was that Davis and James will lead the Lakers to 60-plus wins and a title next season. While the two players are, without a doubt, transcendent players, Los Angeles may be putting too much stock in Davis.
As stated on the last slide, Davis has yet to play an entire NBA season. Actually, Davis has only played more than 70 games twice in his seven-year career. While many will say this doesn’t matter as long as he is healthy for the playoffs, the team will need as many games as they can get together to learn to mesh.
Furthermore, in an NBA where there doesn’t seem to be a clear-cut favorite yet, Los Angeles would likely benefit greatly from earning homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs. If this is going to happen they will need Davis on the court as much as possible.
Davis is definitely the caliber of player who can win games single-handedly, and take over on any given night. If that’s going to happen though he will have to be on the court. Otherwise, the Lakers may have traded the majority of their future away for a roll of the dice.
