The Hawks traded up to get De’Andre Hunter, the lengthy forward out of Virginia, with the 4th pick of the draft.

This is where the draft started to get interesting, most knew the first three picks of the draft, but with picks 4-30, the players were known, the order was not, and the first pick of the unknown was Hunter.

With excellent length, defensive skill, and above average shooting ability, Hunter could be a lifetime starter for any team in the league. He can defend multiple positions with a very long wingspan. However, his shot is still developing which could cause his floor. Worst-case scenario, Hunter could play a similar role to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in Charlotte, but with better scoring ability.

NBA comparison: A lengthier Robert Covington

Covington did not come into the league with the hype that De’Andre Hunter has, but he made himself into a very solid starter for the Sixers and Timberwolves. Hunter does not have the shooting ability of Covington but could develop into a better shooter. Covington also can defend multiple positions similar to Hunter and is revered as one of the better wing defenders in the league. Hunter could keep progressing his defensive skill to be in the discussion with Covington.
