NBA: Ceilings, floors, and comparisons for the 2019 draft lottery picks
By Cole Raines
The Cavaliers got a pure shooter with Darius Garland from Vanderbilt with the 5th pick of the draft.
One of the more highly touted prospects, Garland is a pure shooter, but a meniscus injury cut his season at Vanderbilt short. His long range shooting ability garnered a lot of interest from some of the teams in the lottery but the Cavs pulled the trigger on him. He may be a little light coming into the NBA, but possess good ball handling skills, and can create his own shot.
The Sexton-Garland duo will be interesting for Beilein and Cleveland, but the ceiling for the duo could be similar to what Portland has with Dame and CJ. The floor for Garland could be the meniscus injury lingering and causing problems for his career leaving him in a similar role to Quinn Cook’s for Golden State, a bench scoring guard.
NBA comparison: Value store Damian Lillard
The shooting and shot creating the ability of Garland has some shades of Dame, but he does not have the star power of Dame quite yet, he could develop into a superstar, but his game is similar to Dame. Both are undersized guards with long range, one is a star now, one could be a star in the future.
