NBA: One way each team can improve next season
As we approach the summer, we explore how each NBA team can up their game to become a better overall squad for the 2019-20 season
This year’s NBA Finals further proved that no team is perfect and each franchise has room to improve. Granted some are in better situations than others, but at the end of the day, there are many problems and situations facing every GM, Owner, and overall administration within the whole league.
However, there are some very visible solutions to a lot of teams’ problems and we’re about to dive in and take a look at a way that every NBA team can be better for the 2019-20 season.
Boston Celtics – Chemistry and leadership
The Boston Celtics were almost everyone’s favorites to take the 1 seed in the East and make it to the NBA Finals before the start of the season, but things didn’t turn out that way. The Celtics struggled and underperformed throughout the entire regular season only to take the 4 seed and lose to the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs.
Things were looking great for Boston at the season’s beginnings. Kyrie Irving publically expressed his desire to sign a long term deal with the Celtics next offseason, and he and All-Star Gordon Hayward were both back from injuries. The young core of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Terry Rozier all had terrific postseasons the year prior, forcing a Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals against a LeBron James led Cleveland Cavaliers without the help from their two best players.
The future looked bright, but all that actually lied ahead for Boston was underwhelming disarray. The team wasn’t able to really connect and Kyrie had a tough time blending in with the team. His leadership skills were questioned as the team slowly yet surely declined throughout the year until their disappointing exit in the second round of the playoffs. Fast forward to present day and Kyrie has already cut off ties with his longtime agency and “ghosted” the entire Celtics organization.
All signs point to him heading to the Brooklyn Nets, meaning the Celtics are now still dysfunctional and without a leader. If they want to get back to the strength they had years before they’re going to need a better coaching performance by Brad Stevens and a stronger voice in the locker room that can get the team back on track whether it be by signing or trading for a star or having someone already on the team step up and take charge. They have the talent, they just have to properly utilize it.
