NBA: One way each team can improve next season
Washington Wizards – Finish the dismantling
The Washington Wizards had the potential to be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Due to severe chemistry/locker room issues and the team as a whole just not connected well together on the court, they never hit the level they had the capability to.
Their franchise centerpiece John Wall is out for the entire next season and is getting paid 38 million next year. He’d certainly be worth the money if he was actually playing and if he comes back to the player he once was. An off-the-court Achilles injury has the power to end a players career let alone keep him out for a long while. It is with that unfortunate injury that the max contract the Wizards gave him may go down as one of the worst contracts in NBA history.
With Wall out, that leaves Bradley Beal as the main option. Beal is a really great player but not enough to bring the Wizards to the postseason. Washington has already started the process of breaking down the team by letting go of Otto Porter and Markieff Morris. The Wizards also picked up Dwight Howard (who is notorious for being a locker room cancer) this offseason, but a lingering back injury had him out for all but just 12 games the whole year.
Beal is the last man standing in this belittle Wizards lineup and trade rumors have already started circling the shooting guard. It’d honestly be best for both Beal and Washington to part ways as Beal will be able to play for a better-connected team and the Wizards will (despite the claims from the owner who denies the plan to be) finally be able to start the tank. At the end of the day it just didn’t work out for this Wizards team and the best option for them is to hit the restart button.
