New York Knicks – Acquire superstars
The New York Knicks had the worst record in the NBA last year and acquired the 3rd overall pick in the draft lottery which they used to take Duke’s RJ Barrett. Barrett played phenomenally last year in his one and only NCAA season.
The Knicks also have young studs Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson, but this isn’t enough to get them back on the path of success. The Knicks have made it very clear that their goal is to get the NBA’s best players by any means necessary in order to give the franchise a complete turnaround the quickest way possible. The Knicks have the most cap space out of any NBA team giving them a lot of leverage this coming free agency. Rumors have been circulating all season long about which All-Star was coming to play in the big market of the big apple in Madison Square Garden.
One standout player who showed slimmers of interest in New York was superstar Kevin Durant. Durant was predicted to be the main guy headed to New York, but a ruptured Achilles in Game 6 of the NBA finals might say otherwise. Durant is likely out for all of next season which leaves Knicks fans wondering if their team thinks it’s worth giving him the money they had planned to. An Achilles injury is nothing to take lightly.
Many athletes aren’t able to come back from an injury as severe as that and if they do they most likely aren’t the same. So say the Knicks give him the max contract and he comes back a year later, there’s no way of knowing if he’ll be as great as he was. There are other superstars out there this summer but who’s to say they’d want to come to New York. The Knicks are definitely getting somebody, but the question is whether or not that player’s (or even players) worth the money and/or can lead New York in the right direction.
