NBA: Predicting the landing spots for the top 15 free agents
Al Horford (UFA)
Going into the offseason, nobody thought Horford would leave a $30.1 million player option on the table; although he remained productive in his role as a quintessential point forward with the Boston Celtics, he just turned 33 this month.
When he made the decision to opt out, originally, it was to secure a long-term deal with Boston. Then rumors came out that Horford had a four-year, $100M plus on the table from an undisclosed team, which ultimately led to contract renewal talks dissolving.
Likewise Randle’s situation (and plenty of others), nobody knows for sure where Horford might take his talents. The Clippers and Mavericks have lined up as potential suitors for the big man, while other reports say the Sixers may end up pursuing Horford to play at the 4. There are also rumblings that the Lakers might be interested as well.
However, there is plenty of smoke in those Dallas rumors and the prospect of a Porzingis-Horford frontcourt seems pretty intriguing. Nevertheless, don’t be surprised if he ends up going to the Clippers, as the Mavs are reportedly shaky on giving Horford a 4-year pact.
