The Los Angeles Lakers made a splash when they paired Anthony Davis with LeBron James, but they weren’t done yet. After a revision of the Davis trade, the Lakers freed up enough money to bring another max contract player to Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Lakers made it clear that the 2019 offseason was the time the franchise was going to turn itself around. For a while, it seemed like that plan was all just a pipe dream schemed up by Lakers fans and the front office. However, that changed when the New Orleans Pelicans agreed to finally send superstar Anthony Davis to Los Angeles.

With that trade, the first step had been taken in the Lakers quest to become championship contenders again. While Los Angeles essentially traded away most of their roster, and their first round picks for the near future to land Davis, they also managed to free up enough money to have another max contract spot available. This, of course, happened after initially misunderstanding how much would be available after the first terms of the Davis trade, and Davis waiving his $4 million trade kicker.

With approximately $32 million in cap space and everything finally coming together, the Lakers now had everything set up to put together the NBA’s next “Big 3”. After all, how hard could it be to find another star who wanted to move to Los Angeles and team up with Davis and LeBron James? The problem likely won’t be finding another star. Instead, it will likely be figuring out which star wants to make the move.

That being said, here are five max players the Lakers should target with their newly acquired max salary spot.
