3. D’Angelo Russell

This might be an odd thought for many fans who remember D’Angelo Russell’s abrupt end with the Lakers to start his career. After partially causing a rift in the locker room, Los Angeles traded Russell to the Brooklyn Nets. There he developed into an all-star level point guard who is poised for a big pay-day this offseason.

The Lakers may have traded away this all-star, but this free agency they should look to bring him back. He would fill the team’s most important position need, while also giving the Lakers their third-star piece. Russell is also still young and improving. This makes him an ideal player to pair with two players who are already superstar talents.

Russell is coming off of his best season yet. He averaged 21.1 points, 7.0 assists, and 3.9 rebounds. He would be a great third scoring option who can also set teammates up with his passing ability. Russell would also likely thrive in Los Angeles now. Since leaving the team he has developed great confidence and swagger. He most likely wouldn’t fear the pressure that would come with joining the team.

The Lakers will be one of many teams after Russell when free agency starts, but not many of his options will give him the chance at a title as Los Angeles could. A second chance with his old team might be just what both sides need.
