The 2019 NBA Free Agency period is nearly upon us, and it will no question shake the landscape of the league
The NBA Finals is over. The NBA Draft is over. Now, the third and the most intriguing part of the NBA season is upon us. Rumors are swirling all over the league, unknown sources are dropping information like a federal plea agreement.
But with all these rumors, does anyone really know where anyone is going? Before the Finals started it was a foregone conclusion that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were going to wear the orange and blue of the New York Knicks. But all signs now point to Irving in Brooklyn and Durant’s injury has thrown a cloud over the entire free agency.
We all know the Golden State Warriors are going to keep Klay Thompson and throw max dollars at him. Who in their right mind would break up the Splash Brothers? Kawhi just added to his reputation as the super team destroyer and to me is the biggest mystery. Nothing seems to faze this dude and he plays it close to the vest.

In my opinion, Kemba Walker is the wildcard. Walker was third team All-NBA this year and doesn’t come with as much baggage as Kyrie but also doesn’t have the same resume. But his name has been linked to almost all the teams in this free agency arms race. However, from all indications, it seems like the Boston Celtics have landed him.
Now that I got Generation K out the way let’s not forget Mr. Alpha Dog himself Jimmy Butler. Is he really going to force the Philadelphia 76ers‘ hand to trade him to Houston or stay and sign the max? Butler is really intriguing because he is a no-nonsense player with a history of pushing his younger teammates to want more and the fashion he communicates with his teammates is not the smoothest.
So when the smoke settles and all the meetings are tied up, it’s going to be a different landscape. The East will be stronger and more competitive and hopefully balance out the conferences.
2019 is going to be a pivotal year for the NBA, while one super team is possible being broken down brick by brick another team is making that push for NBA dominance. So let’s enjoy the free agency roller coaster while me and other Knicks fans pray we get a seat at the big boy table at not the kiddie table.
