After a crazy offseason, let’s take a look at the five best free agents still on the open market as the summer comes to a close
The big-name free agents are off of the board, NBA Summer League is over, and outside of a Chris Paul trade, this insane NBA offseason looks like it is finally starting to slow down.
While the cupboards are pretty bare, there are still a few players worth taking a chance on. The following five players may not garner the same fanfare as some of their fellow colleagues, but they might be the x-factor for the team that picks them up. So without further ado, here are the best 5 free agents remaining.
5. Jonathon Simmons
Rewind a few years ago, and Simmons looked like he was going to be the next diamond in the rough star that the Spurs found and developed. Fast forward to now, he just hasn’t found the same magic that he once had in San Antonio.
In his defense, he did go to the Orlando Magic, where promising free agents go to die. Simmons has since been traded to the 76ers, then traded to the Wizards, and ultimately been waived by the Wizards. He is now available to sign with whatever team he wants. Simmons is very athletic, and with his length has a chance to be a very good defensive stopper. He is also a decent player on offense that can score from all three phases and would immediately help any team’s second unit on both sides of the ball.
