New Orleans Pelicans: Lonzo Ball will be great for Zion Williamson
Lonzo Ball is the perfect young piece to stick next to Zion Williamson, and he will blossom with the New Orleans Pelicans
When the New Orleans Pelicans traded away Anthony Davis, they received a haul of young players and draft picks. Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and Jaxson Hayes are all very good, but Lonzo Ball may be the best player out of them.
Ball was drafted No. 2 overall by the Los Angeles Lakers a few seasons ago, and he has played well in his two years in the league. Despite being a below-average shooter, Ball’s elite defense, great playmaking, and rebounding have made him a good player.
Along with his great athleticism, Ball’s skills will make a great fit next to Zion Williamson, the team’s future superstar. Zion will greatly benefit by playing alongside an elite playmaker in Lonzo.

Zion is a great finisher and transition player, thanks to his elite athleticism. Lonzo is also very athletic and is a great passer. Pairing Zion with a player of Lonzo’s skillset will be great for both of them.
Lonzo’s playmaking will also benefit everyone else on the roster. When he was on the Lakers, nearly all of Lonzo’s teammates played better with him than without him. That trend will continue in New Orleans.
Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and Jaxson Hayes are all going to become great NBA players in the future. However, at this stage in their careers, playing with an elite passer like Lonzo will help them a lot. As said earlier, Ingram and Hart both played better with Lonzo than without him the past two seasons.
Lonzo Ball will also be really good for the Pelicans on defense. Him and Jrue Holiday are both elite defenders and will be the best defensive backcourt in the NBA. Add Zion, who projects to be a lockdown defender as well, and the Pelicans should have a very strong and athletic team defense.
Jrue Holiday, who will start next to Lonzo in the backcourt, is going to be a great mentor for him. Although Ball is more athletic, the two share very similar skill sets. They are both great playmakers and defenders. Ball will be able to learn a lot from Holiday, which will help develop into a star NBA point guard, just like Holiday was.
Will Lonzo ever be as good as Anthony Davis was for the Pelicans? No, he probably won’t. The only Pelican who could possibly do that will be Zion Williamson. However, Lonzo’s overall skill set and talent will help EVERYONE on this team. Him, combined with the rest of the young assets New Orleans received, amounts to a HUGE return for New Orleans’ former star.
