Ranking the top 10 NBA player duos after a historic free agency period

The 2019 free agency period may be a defining moment for the newest era of NBA basketball. For the better part of the past five years, the rest of the NBA has been woefully inferior to the dynastic Golden State Warriors. Led by an All-Star core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green, the Warriors had no equal when healthy, with Durant giving an already fantastic roster another gear.

However, Durant’s departure following an unceremonious end to the Golden State dynasty, along with Kawhi Leonard‘s decision to spurn the Los Angeles Lakers for the crosstown Clippers, has brought a level of balance to the NBA that has arguably been absent since the early 2000s.

With the formation of new star duos in Los Angeles and Brooklyn, along with the continued development of existing duos, ranking such pairings have become a contentious debate topic, so here are my top 10 player NBA duos following an extremely eventful free agency period.

(NOTE: For the purpose of this exercise, players such as Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant, who figure to miss large portions of the season, will still be included. These rankings take into account the long-term potential of each duo and not just the upcoming regular season. All statistics come from Basketball-Reference.)
