The Wolves will trade Andrew Wiggins

The fact that the Minnesota Timberwolves intend on starting the season with the same core of Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns is quite perplexing. This is a duo that simply should be further along in their collective progression. Right now, no matter who you ask, Towns and Wiggins have consistently disappointed.

You can make a strong case that breaking them up is long overdue. And the one that the Wolves should look to keep is KAT. That leaves Wiggins as a player that the Wolves should be shopping hard between now and the start of the season. However, I don’t think it will be easy to find a trade partner that will A) willingly absorb the $120 million remaining on Wiggins’ contract and B) also getting a decent return from the said team that is willing to trade for him.

I don’t think those two terms can coexist whenever the Wolves decide to move him. Unless Wiggins take a stride in his progression on both ends of the court that he has yet to show. The Wolves are in a difficult spot and can’t really find much flexibility until they move Wiggins – or until he shows signs of developing into a true superstar.

The Andrew Wiggins experiment in Minnesota needs to be over. The only real issue that the Wolves will have to overcome is finding the right trade partner. And that could prove to be difficult considering Wiggins’ contract.
