Falling Stocks

On a less optimistic note, I’ll move on to the players who saw their value take the biggest hit during 2018-2019. Again, don’t be a hero, if you get lost and confused go back to the agenda items and try again.

John Wall – Washington Wizards

Yikes. I feel bad for John Wall and Wizard fans for the bad luck they’ve both had over the past year or so. After playing 32 games this past year, John Wall ruptured his Achilles, and for a player who has always been so explosive, that could be a career-ending injury.

The injury would have been bad enough, but the timing couldn’t be worse. Wall had just recently signed a four-year, 171 million dollar contract which is worth an average of roughly 42 million each year per Spotrac, the same as what James Harden will make.

The huge dollar amount and severe injury have made John Wall the most un-tradeable player in the league right now, and I don’t think there is even a close second place. If there is a silver lining for the Wizards, it’s that they have an insurance policy that pays for 80 percent of Wall’s salary if his injury keeps him out for more than 41 games, so there is no need to rush him back.

That cap hit won’t change though, and the combination of Wall’s injury and contract numbers will likely prevent the Wizards from being a contender any time soon.
